The Center for CBT is now offering a speciality testing program for kids who may be twice exceptional (2e). Twice exceptional (2e) kids are children who simultaneously demonstrate exceptional abilities or giftedness in one or more areas while also having one or more learning disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders. This unique combination of high intellectual capabilities and learning challenges can sometimes mask each other, making it difficult for parents, educators, and even the children themselves to recognize and address both aspects of their profiles. These children might excel in areas such as mathematics, music, or creative writing but struggle significantly with tasks like reading, writing, or social interactions.
Identifying twice exceptional kids requires a nuanced approach that takes into account their strengths and weaknesses. Standardized tests might not fully capture their abilities or challenges, and traditional educational settings might not be equipped to provide the necessary support. Once identified, these children benefit from a tailored educational plan that nurtures their talents while also addressing their learning difficulties. Support strategies might include individualized instruction, assistive technologies, and a strengths-based approach to learning. By recognizing and supporting both their exceptional abilities and their challenges, we can help twice exceptional kids reach their full potential.
Our speciality evaluations tailored toward kids who are twice exceptional are conducted by psychologists with specific expertise in 2e so that they can not only provide accurate diagnoses, but also providing nuanced and expert recommendations based on their expertise with 2e kiddos.
